Some Hard Stone

Im posting some of my better personal finds on Hard Stone pieces. Believe it or not I find quite a few of broken pieces of Celts and other hard stone items. I like the whole ones of course as anybody would but this is a example of the last one I found this week broken and what it would of looked like if it had been whole. The polish never goes away on the surface just as slick as the day they used them. Surface Finds N GA, rock

I paid $80 for that Hard Stone case and that was a discount due to most arent selling them anymore cause people arent finding anything to put in them. The average Celt is 6 inches long in my area its 24x18x4 inches deep all hardwood and real glass.

It is a petrified wood I found it laying well you know where.......and had been laying in that spot for god knows how long so one side is lighter than the other in color. Its a Club head no bit on the ends. I will tell you its a blast finding them. Nothing but the one in the middle top this year so far I will go through them and tell what each one is.

From left to right starting at the top.
1. Is a Adze Blade it has a very thick patina on it and is a type of Quartzite.
2. Notched in the middle some say Ax/ Hoe and is a hard slate.
3. Peanut Ax its a type of war club Woodland period used and is made from creek sediment almost like Limestone but hard.
Middle Row
1. Its a Stemmed Blade made from a black quartzite.
2. Mississippian Square Celt some were used for splitting wood and hammered on the flat end which causes them to break.
3. Black and White Flint Guilford AX unfinished on the right side but a lot of them were crudely made just for the task at hand.
Bottom Row
1.Club Head or War Club made from Petrified Wood Unknown period.
2. Poll Celt, Early Woodland Period made from Hematite
3. Adze Blade or small Hoe made from Limestone or Rhyolite
4. Green Stone Game piece Mississippian Period.

I did find this chipped flint Celt this year its small I thought it was a weird knife but many other collectors I know say Celt.

All super nice pieces! I have found only 2 hard stone artifacts in my creek and hope to find more. Love that flint one too!

Looks like only 5 and 8 are hardstone, rest cheer/flint. Interesting pieces nonetheless

I believe you are asking about this one. Its a large flake removed I do believe and then turned into a tool. Bare with me cause the polish is thick and water worn from the creek. I actually took it to a Archy and he is the one that said Adze Blade so I went with it as being correct. I always like the flint you find any up to date on your finds as to the age? Thanks

Oh still out looking for the Holly Grail with no luck. Had so much rain last week I was thinking its a good thing I have my Yak in the garage in case I need to get out. Other than that not much. I did walk a Virgin field the other day didnit find much walked about 1/2 of a mile only to find a preform cobble. You dont know unless you go look so now I know. Thanks for asking, rock
