Yesterday's $10 lot produced some unusual stuff -

- 14 shiny, brand new 1964 Canadians that look fresh out of a BU roll. And these came out of a penny machine!

- a 1962 impaired proof Lincoln that has toned to a very light blue green. This is the oldest proof coin I've ever found. Could it be someone broke open a 62 proof set and spent the coins???

- a 1958-D wheatie to top everything off.

I'm gonna go back to the same machine, if no one's playing it, and try to get more of those 64s.

Oh, and I got a 1963 $1 bill in change too. Considering the average lifespan of a bill is 18 months it's amazing to find one over 40 years old. It's in great shape too.

Here's a funny side story. While going thru the pennies I was watching South Park on Comedy Central. Every time I found another shiny 64 Canadian I always seemed to hear Cartman screaming about something. So from now on whenever I look at them I'll think of Cartman! :D

Not bad... you've had better luck than me. I pretty much struck out on 5 rolls of pennies and 5 rolls of nickels... not a single wheatie, but I did get 10 of the 2004's and 2005's with the Lewis and Clark designs. Also a lot of shiny 2004 and 2005 pennies (yawn).

$35 in nickels was mildly interesting -

1939 (keeper!)
1940
1952
1954
1955D

2000 Canadian

I'll try another $10 in pennies again tomorrow and move back to halves next week. Wish I had found a war nick, good job Charlie.

Back to the same penny machine today and the results were even better!

- I emptied it out and found 17 more shiny 1964 Canadians which means if someone deposited a whole roll I missed 19 of them. I already had a roll of 64s going and these were enough to finish it and then some.

- Two more Canadians to boot, 1984 & 2002

- Two wheaties, 1942S & 1954

What kind of penny machine is this? Is it a 1? slot machine?

Yesiree Klaatu!

The dingy little casino I go to has a whole penny section with about 50 machines that literally take pennies. While penny machines are popping up even in the biggest casinos in Vegas, they're coinless, so you can play any denomination but the machine pays you by a paper barcoded ticket. I know days are numbered for 1? machines, and coin machines in general, so I'm making the best of it while it lasts.

And with fewer places having actual penny machines people come to this casino to dump the stuff they don't want to roll. The goodies will hopefully only get better!

Ok, now I'm confused. Happy, but confused.

I played pennies a couple of machines down from the one I'd cleaned out yesterday and cashed out my usual $10 worth. I dump them out on the table at home and, would you believe it, more shiny 1964 Canadians! 21 more! That's 53 so far which means whoever dumped these must have had more than one roll.

Four wheats came along for the ride too; 1944, 1946D, 1952, 1957D and two 1984 Canadians.
