Not Goodwill, thrift stores, estate sales or auctions. I thought it would be a nice change...

Couple or three weeks ago I found the vintage Bates Stapler. Now I've got a Bates Automatic Eyeleter. Works great. $3
California Pottery ashtray cost fifty cents.
Acme Brick paperweights $1 for both. The small one is fairly common but, the bicentennial is not.
I think the best finds are the 2 rolls wire. 500 ft thermostat wire solid copper core. $2. The 250 ft cloth covered lamp cord was $5. I'm a keep my eye out for this kind of stuff. Wow!

HH All!

The 250 ft cloth covered lamp for $5! Lucky!
That stuff is expensive. I think I paid about a dollar a foot to fix my lamp ! Excellent find!

Thanks. All the cloth covered wire I saw on Ebay is new and like you said expensive. I'm wondering if there is a law or some standard against using the old stuff for rewiring old appliances or, is it just hard to find?

Not sure on the legal aspect. But I'm sure it is pretty hard to find. However, I do think the new stuff is safer because it has the nylon insulator under the cloth insulator.
Also its color coded so you can wire it up correctly with a polarized plug.

Oh I wish I could post something from a real garage sale right now but I haven't seen one up here for going on 5 months now. Great buys on the wire and other GS items, this post really gets me anxious to get out!

Good score on the wire. I have purchased bulk wire, rope, chain, etc. at garage sales before. I sell that stuff on Craigslist. Usually a quick flip for good profit.

Out of curiosity, how do you figure out how to price a spool of wire to sell on craigslist? I would have no idea where to start.
