Speaking of Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes ...

The one shown below was killed a few years ago in Cleburne, Texas, which is located about twenty miles southeast of Dallas/Fort Worth. Although unconfirmed by the Fish and Game Department, it reportedly measured 9 feet 6 inches. Typically the largest of these Western Diamondbacks are about 7 feet in length.

So be careful when searching for bottles in Texas or anywhere else where these bruisers hang out. We have some biggin's right here in southern California that keep me out of the brush during the warm months between May and December.

Re: SOUTHWEST SODA BOTTLES & MORE

Whatever part of the country your bottle hunting trails take you, there is nothing better to guide you there than a good map book. Below is one of the first, dated 1920 by the Clason Map Co. of Chicago & Denver. Notice it says "Paved Roads." This was a big deal in 1920, considering that Route 66 (The nations first fully paved cross country highway) wasn't established until 1926. I just love the Indian Chief on the cover who is welcoming travelers along out Great American Highways.

Re: SOUTHWEST SODA BOTTLES & MORE

Should your travels ever take you toward the northwest, there are some pretty cool bottles up that way too around northern California.

Re: SOUTHWEST SODA BOTTLES & MORE

Although this circa 1910 Buffalo Bill and Pawnee Bill book and bottle do not qualify as being true "Southwest," they are definitely part of the same tradition and clan.

Re: SOUTHWEST SODA BOTTLES & MORE

diggummup ~

Thanks for stopping by and leaving the much appreciated comment.

Below are a few more items in my collection. The "Rancho" bottle is from Ontario, Calif., and dated 1954. The Indian clay pot (olla) I found back in the 1960s when I was in the Boy Scouts. The grinding stone (mano) was also found at that time. I also have a nice collection of various sized arrowheads from my Boy Scout days, and may post some pics of them later.
