2015 was a good year. For life and for treasures. While many hunger and thirst, we have the luxury to hunt down treasures.
I am lucky enough to have great digging buddies. How fun would it be to treasure hunt alone?
I started the year (Jan 6) with a 1848 Mechanic and ended it today with a 1744 Spanish cobb.
Life is good.

Excellent story, amazing coin, no brainer banner, but can you explain the sort of land 'site' that a Spanish Gold Coin can pop up from? (early settlement, Inn, Market???)

Unanswered question?

As for the characteristics of the site; it was less than average. There were no historic structures nor was the area lined with 200 year old Oaks. We have all hunted much "better" sites. There were a few hardwoods, lots of pines, and budweiser was king of the beer cans. I did see some pockets of potential.
The "potentials" were pieces of brick, pieces of china, oyster shells...
I guess the lesson is to never judge a book by its cover.

Almost forgot the coin was dug with my shovel, I think I will have to retire it, paint if gold, and give him it for a late Christmas present

Awesome gold coin and congrats on the banner! Forgive my ignorance but what is an 1848 mechanic?

In some way that doesn't surprise me. As some of our best finds have come from the most unpromising places, we predict that 'if' we ever get a Roman Gold it will be from a random field!
The more you hunt the better the chances.
