For folks planning a long vacation road trip :
5 to 8 lb top sirloin unsliced salt , pepper , garlic heavy duty aluminum foil
4 medium onions sliced 1/4" several medium red potatoes 1 can cream of mushroom soup
4 to 5 hours ahead of destination :
Season steak to taste , add other seasonings to taste , wrap steak in tripple layer of foil and potatoes separately in double wrap and place on top of vehicle engine . Use wire to secure if needed .
Stop every 2 hours to check securement and wrapping integrity , make comfort call and walk around briskly for a few minutes .(This is the healthy , safe way to travel .)
1 hour or less from destination , place can of mushroom soup on engine and secure .
At the end of the day you have a well slowcooked steak to slice , baked potatoes , and hot mushroom sauce to go on them . A few fresh veggies from the cooler with ranch dip and you just fed the family for less than what the gasoline cost for the day .
If you didn't figure out that you need thick gloves to handle things once they get hot you will when you burn your fingers .
Put an unopened can of soup on the engine for too long in the interests of travel time and you will
have a mell of a hess when it explodes .
