This morning was my first hunt in five weeks and even though I hunted only one hour plus, it felt good to get outside again. I found no coins, no buttons, lots of shotgun casings and one beautiful little buckle with some leather still attached.

The buckle is not of age, that is it does not match the coins and buttons that have been found here except for one CW or post CW era Eagle button I found. Since it has a Pat Date on it I know it is at least 1835 and newer and I assume it is most likely late 1800's to early 1900's.

One photo is of the site area where the buckle and previous Liberty Cap Cents have been found, the two pond shots were taken on the way home.

"B. M. Co." - Brunswick Manufacturing Company, Pittsfield, IL. They made a variety of silver jewelry and accessory items: cigar and cigarette lighters and cases, compacts, vanities, etc.

Not sure of the date, but would guess c. 1920's-30's. The firm is listed in the 1934 Keystone Jewelry Trade Mark Book.

What a beautiful area to detect, just being there must have been wonderful. Glad you got to get out! That buckle is amazing, I would love to add something like that to my collection, it would make a great center piece. Does the snap style give any clue to the date? Way to go Don!

Way to go PBK!

Welcome back to this great sport, Don! You are due for one of those coppas with a 4 at the end of the date, and cap after the liberty. :D

I have a copy of the book, but after posting I decided to see if there was any detailed info on the company online. Didn't find any, but there is an illustration of a similar mark (with the same attribution) on the following webpage. Scroll down to the 8th row of mark photos; it's the first one on the left:

Don, at least you got your metal detecting butt out in the field. I also welcome you back into this great athletic sport.

I smell a State-issued Colonial coppa in your future. :) ;)
