Well, I finally did it. After over 53 years of metal detecting, I managed to detect and recover a gold coin! Not just any old gold coin, but, a real old gold coin. It's a Celtic quarter stater, initially identified as a Dubnovellaunus from 25 BC to 5 BC. I had to go to England to do it, but, that was half the fun! I also found all sorts of other items too, and I'll post some more photos when I get the time. Right now, I'm still on cloud 9.

How does the treasure act affect your find? did you have to leave it there in a museum?
It stays there for now, until it's evaluated to decide if it's treasure or not......probably not. They have better examples of most gold coins, and this apparently is not part of a hoard, so, I'll probably get it in the end. That's pretty much up to them though. I'll either get the coin, or, the value of it.

Here's another coin I found on the same trip. Roman silver baby! Kinda crusty and I don't know the exact I.D. yet, but, still a welcome find. More to come........

Here's the milled silver coins I found. They range from the late 1600's "slick Willie" love token at the bottom, to a 1927 shilling in the upper left. Smallest coin is a 3 pence.

Getting a couple of Queen Anns in a hunt is great, well done.
