Re: Sunday's Finds

The coins are pence coins, from the 1970's. Not that old at all.
There are plenty of old churches in the area however, and I have about 20 castles within a 30 min radius.
I hope to post some better finds this summer.

Cheers.

WOW! With places like that to hunt, i'm sure you will! Do they find roman coins in your neck of the woods. HH

HH,
No, the Roman's barely touched Ireland. The Celts scared them off. The Vikings were here though. We have a lot of Viking relics, and Celtic relics.
Roman coins are pretty common in Britian, and I have seen them being sold fairly cheap at coin and antique shows.

Nice finds and what great places to hunt. I'd listen for those really deep targets.

I'm rather surprised though they even allow one to hunt these areas.

badger, the law is that you cannot hunt for relics on a historically registered site. I am carefull to follow the letter of the law.
This church is in ruins and on private land, and I had permission.
The lake is on public land.

Anything found of archeological significance must be reported within 14 days, and turned in for a finders fee.

Coins less than 200 years old are yours to keep.
