Hi Reed, The Tiger Shark will do fine and the UMax would be a fine back up for the dry sand if only having one detector makes one nervous.

Just don't expect either to function well in the wet sand. Not even the Tiger Shark in "Salt Mode".

Stick to dry sand you will do fine.

I've used that at the beach, forget it. You'd have to have very thick dry sand to be able to use it on, there it will do ok, but I wouldn't waste my time.
