Ok farmer chick.. I respect your thoughts. But most people would say that unnecessary travel, vacations and pulling a camper are a complete waste of fuel. Now you and I know that because we are not in a fascist country we should be allowed to do what we want, and we also know there is plenty to go around, if we can afford it. So the best way to change the game is to change the principle beliefs of the players.

Are you sure you want to pull a trailer?

I cannot believe you have bought into the waste propaganda. It does not matter in any way. There is no shortage,, there is only government control. The old days where the activists said there is a finite supply and we would be out of oil by 1999 are long gone.

In the early 70s my grandfather made his vehicles to run on either propane or gas,, Propane was very cheap at the time. And then the government stepped in and said there was too much revenue being lost so they caused the prices to surge in propane.

Now there are many pushing natural gas. I watched the CEO of the leading natural gas supplier to vehicles on Kramer this AM. He said that per gal of Natural gas cost him about 35 cents. He was selling it for about 1.50/. Bless his free market heart. But do you think that an oil company could charge close to 500% of the cost?

Clean energy my buttocks.. If the government decided they were losing money in gasoline they would tax the crackers out of natural gas.

Like I said, if every man grew a beard, would we still be paying $15 for a pack of 5 for razor refills? Is the government controlling these prices too?

They hafta keep them under lock and key where I am!

If everyone called in sick today I GUARANTEE prices would drop a little bit over the next week. (That's actually not a bad idea!)

No I do not.
I spent awhile yesterday on my tractor turning the soil for my garden this year. It is not a huge garden, enough for my immediate family. And people who split these kind of hairs might even say I was wasting fuel because it is not a completely necessary endeavor.

But it is something I like to do. We have to be careful how we classify needs and waste.. it is a very slippery slope. It does not work for a free society.

I bet if we followed your day Neil we could find some way that you were wasting fuel. "In our opinion". But because you are here, In the USA, I will stand with you to use YOUR resources as YOU see fit.

Then you are contributing. I do my best not to "gun" the engine and I try to be organized so that I am not driving all over town. I am doing my part.

apparently the cost of gasoline isn't affecting you 44. God Bless your garden tillin heart.

It's not affecting me either, I just jack up my prices and go on with it, but sooner or later

the folks buying my stuff are going to have to decide to either purchase gas to get to work,

go shopping, take vacations or til their gardens, at that point it will affect me.

For some reason there was an article somewhere that said there is plenty of crude in the United States of America, the

thing driving prices is the lack of refinery space(closing of refineries on the east coast) and the lack of forsight to

construct raw oil pipelines. (that would be the homepage of MSN, microsoftnetwork)

Now excuse me while I go out and let my truck run for a few hours while I watch tv.

I just think we should be careful of the classification.
I accelerate and stop smoothly to save fuel. Not because it is my part to save anything I purchase. It is because I am extremely selfish! I would like to keep some of my money so that I can drive unnecessarily to the next town over and metal detect.

Hey, remember the old days and cruising the strip? How many miles I put on my old pickup back then!!??

And maybe some day I could waste some fuel and head north to detect with you! You have some nice finds!

There is another thing causing prices to rise and it will only get worse. The US is now supplying other european countries with some of their gasoline and diesel. The reasons being that as Iran cuts or stops supplying oil to Europe and Asia, they will start buying more from us. This past year, the US exported more fuel to foreign countries than ever before. We have always supplied fuel and oil to Japan, but now it seems more and more countries are needing larger supplies and the US, being the entrepeneurs they are, are very willing to supply them for a price. Without building more refineries, it may cause a bidding war between us the other others. There may be a law to prevent them from exporting over a certain percent of their production. If not, then they will sell to the highest bidder. China has been driving the cost of oil up for a while now as they are needing more fuel as they transform from a pre Industrial country to an industrial nation. As they acquire more wealth they will buy automobile and other gasoilne and diesel using machinery. So far we have had the upper hand with Saudia Arabia only taking dollars for their oil, but there have been speculation that they may start demanding Euros. If this were to happen we would have to exchange our dollars for euros, which are higher. If Iran does stop producing oil, it will cause the other oil exporters to rethink their production quotas. It could come down to another oil embargo, like happened in the late 70's. For those who weren't driving back then, we had even and odd days where we could buy gas. and we were only allowed 5 gallons. Lines were long and tempers short. Anyone who had a vehicle, motorcycle or lawnmower had to have a locked gas cap on it or they would be drained over night. I hope we do not have to go through that again. Good Luck. rockhound

Wasteful driving? The fuel consumption is at it's lowest point in many years! There is a surplus of oil and fuel in the system. The current prices are soley the result of market manipulations.

Along with our bad habits. The market can only be manipulated if the demand is there.

If every man grew a beard, do you think razor blades would cost $15 for a pack of 5?

:tongue3: :tongue3: :tongue3: :laughing7: :laughing7: :laughing7:

Please stop! You guys are killing me! Simple supply and demand ::) !! The consumption is down so the cost is up! :laughing9: :laughing9: :evil5:

Unrest in Iran combined with the possibility of a major terminal closing in the North East is putting a lot of uncertainty in the supply chain. I am not denying that consumption is down, but the supply is down, or at least threatening to be.

Will agree with the above posts . Although, I'm sure many cannot do it for one reason or another, just think if everyone refused to show up for work for 3 days or even a whole week as an organized 'tax-payer's' revolt against
the BS going on in DC. Imagine the tax loss , imagine what the DC Socialists would do when they realize they have less of the working class's money to use to promote their welfare & section 8 agenda .

They need to understand, we know the reason Socialism or Marxism has always failed - everywhere thru-out the world it's been implemented, because 'sooner or later they run out of other people's money'. Especially when they learn it's easier to become a 'user' than a 'provider'.

So lets let the corporations run america, so that the CEO of Cigna Insurance can have African Lobster Tails for lunch every day, while we all pay $1500 for health insurance. That would make America great! :icon_thumright:

Here is how I look at it already: If gas is $3.50, Why drive 15 miles across town out of the way to save 2 cents a gallon on a fillup at $3.52.. A 20 gallon tank gets you an extra 40 cents on a fillup if dead on E.. So if your bomb is like mine 15mpg you just wasted pretty much 2 gallons of fuel to save 40 cents..
Screw in your lightbulb.. :sign13: If Everyone Quit driving all together, How long you Reckon it will take for gas to drop..

Or! Everyone take turns on Spart's Bike.. :laughing9: :laughing9:

Looks as if the "corporations" have been folded into the government like never before. Maybe we should let GM run the country? You are right, Crony Capitalism is dangerous.

If gas were $5.00 a gallon right now.. It is $3.85 here.. So that is $1.15 more per gallon..

So a fillup at $3.85 X 19 gallon = $73.15
Add for fillup $1.15 X 19 gal. = $21.85
So a fillup at $5.00 X 19 gal. = $95.00

That means less meat and more taters.. Less meat and more mac & cheese..

Like Truckin Butch put it.. :headbang: less lumber more beer.. :tongue3:

Something has to give.. Well maybe National Free gas month.. :evil5: Now that's what I'm talkin about.. :hello2:

A couple of my friends and I live about 45 miles from work so we carpool. We have been carpooling for years so this rise in gas prices isn't what made us carpool but I'm glad we are used to it. Thing is, we are now working 4 10-hour days instead of 5 8-hour days. Makes for long work days, especially with the driving time but, we have cut back 20% on gas use for work.
I also:
Let the house get a little colder
Make a concious effort to use as little electricity as possible by using fluorescent lamps where feasible and turning lights off when not needed.
Use the clothesline more
Get eggs from our own chickens
Can and freeze garden veggies and fruits
We raise our own beef but don't save much as we cannot irrigate and have to buy hay. Still beats store-bought by a mile
Will be baking more bread.....I like doing it but just haven't made the effort to do it more
Wild birds get less feed from me than usual. Never saw a California bird die of starvation anyway. ;D
Recreation, for the most part, involves hunting and fishing so it helps stock the freezer as well as provide good times.
Reload our own ammo, pistol and rifle. May get a shotgun reloader but wouldn't save as much as we do on other rounds. We have so much ammo stockpiled but, with all of the shooting we do, we need a lot. Practice makes perfect. My grandson was 9 this last summer and was constantly hitting a paper plate-sized target at 100 yds. with an AR 15 and open sights. At shorter ranges with his .22 he can put rounds in a 4-inch circle with open sites. He would qualify as a food gatherer.
We, my son's families, and ours can probably get by without a LOT of sacrificing but it's nice to think I'm cheating the fat cats out of, at least, a few pennies.

ABSOLUTELY True! When the government started trying to control business, and business thought the government could protect them from competition! Terrible situation for the last 100 years,, A slight ebb and flow,, but ingrained in the elite world of business and politics.

Have you looked at the stock market growth for '29? Do you know why it took more than 10 years to come out of a depression that the rest of the world started coming out of in a few years?

Hang on buddy!

How about this? Everyone who lives on the border of each state file a restraining order against the gas companies.. Then they can not deliver, How long before they go bankrupt? They will have to then sell it cheap enough as to give it away... :headbang:
