That's crazy! Any idea what it is? looks like silver or a stable metal considering it hasn't deteriorated. Gratz! I gotta get into MD!

Civil war South Carolina belt plate. 9 out of 10 for rarity, don't get much better. [emoji4]

Nice South Carolina plate. Details please. Is it brass? Dimensions, back photo maybe also?

I don't see the die break, which are always present with this buckle according to the Mullinax book?

Not doubting just wondering if this is an unknown variety or if I'm missing something in the photo.

Yes that's definately boast-worthy material. Congratz ! And since you guys probably don't get too many S mint coins out your way, and since we don't get much CW stuff out our way, I'll make you a deal: I'll trade you some S mint common wheaties for that ? Ok ? Deal ? :tongue3:

Can't give too much details without giving away the location. But the funny thing is someone had put a post in the ground next to it only inches away. Thank god they didn't hit it. From what I can find, they think it was made by a jeweler in Charlestown and somehow made it back to the midlands of SC. The die they used to make these broke, making it vary rare.

Hard to believe that has been buried in the ground for 150 years and looks like it was dropped yesterday.

The buckle is silver plated brass, silver holds up well in the ground especially in the sand. This is the back I think it was dropped face down.
