Re: The GREAT TREASURE NET "SMOKE-OUT" (November 1, 2007)

I want to quit too. I quit about 3 years ago but then had a run of 14 funerals in those 3 years and picked it back up again. I only smoke about 1/2 a pack a day or less most of the time and I never smoke the whole cigarette.

My thing is all metal. I see so many people older than me who smoke and have smoked longer than me and they seem to be doing fine. It is that irrationality that keeps me going.

Before I quit using the tablets. I have the gum and tried but get about a day and half and my will power is gone. I know it is so bad for me.

I just have to get past the metal part. For me that is the difficulty. If I am busy I can go a long time without a smoke. It is when I am bored that I smoke more!

I smoked for about 18 years and quit when my eleven year old was born. I used Zyban, it worked for me
biggest thing is remembering that even one cig can make me want to pick them back up.
well, I can truthfully say, that's not going to happen.
good luck to everyone who tries to quit. I'll cheer for you

3 Years today, 3 November (it took me 3 days to wind down - then just stop)
I will always credit Jim and other TreasureNet members for the encouragement to succeed in stopping smoking.

If anyone wants my advice on 'getting over the first cigarette', you are welcome to PM me :icon_thumleft:

Cheers, Mike

Knew I would have to quit eventually and yesterday was the day-have been diagnosed with emphysema. Watched my Mom die of this horrible disease and pray I don't go the same way.

Re: The GREAT TREASURE NET "SMOKE-OUT" (November 1, 2007)

Jim, my Doctor wanted to know if I had quit smoking, and I told him "no, I'm not going to quit. He said,"why" my reply was "I never started".
If I started, I would have a hard time, or after 83 years I would have probably expired long ago. Habits are hard for me to break.

You done good, it must be difficult to put them down. I seems the ladies have a tougher time.

People that smoke around me have no effect, I don't mind. People that smoke and quit have a rough time being around someone with a cigarette, I never had a problem being around a smokey camp fire...... G'Day Gnewt :icon_thumleft:

Gnewt - I wish I had never started. You're not missing a thing! I still have occassional cravings, but they are easy to fight off because I have so much support at home. (Thanks Lisa!)

Congratulations on quiting! Now... as for the rest of that - just keep breathing the clean air. I sent a prayer your way. Keep moving forward and don't look back!

You all should be proud. Your habit never bothered me, but I have seen the damage it has done to some of
my best friends. And if I ever took it up, I would have expired long ago. I probably would not have the gumption to kick the
habit now. Congrats. to all those that are getting their taste and smell back, thats the good things I hear. Gnewt

I don't usually revive old threads but I think this thread is too good to fall into the Tnet abyss. Maybe some inspiration from those who haven't quit yet? Or an update from others who have?
I'm still going strong, seems like forever since I quit.
