To the plough that is :D probably done very recently the first picture is of a Hammered Edward? penny.

We arrived at one of out main fields today, and it had been ploughed :headbang: unfortunately it was raining very heavily :crybaby2: and freshly rolled fields and rain are a bad combernation, we managed two hours on the field after a bit of a lull in the rain.
The Hammered come from the corner of the field that I have had six outhers in, could be a small purse loss here :dontknow: the going was very heavy but a few nice finds showed, a nice counterfeit William 111 shilling :o and another small Roman Brooch gives me great hope for tomorrow as the forcast is for dryer weather, so should be some good finds to show :icon_thumleft:

OK Colin then, this many. It helps though to live very close to to a Medieval tournament site  This picture does not include the coins I've sold.

There's no need to show off Rob :D

At least you are getting out SS, tomorrow will be my first day for a week, but at least it's part of the same field where I found the Thrymsa. By the way nice finds :icon_thumleft:.

My flask is already filled and I have bought a tube of jaffa cakes :laughing7:. Sunrise is at 05.57 and I will be digging at 05.57 and 1 second :laughing9:. The farmer was discing the field this afternoon so tomorrow is my first chance to get on it this year. The good news is I have got another church field just like the one Cru and shaun did with me last year, same period and activity.

Since about Christmas Colin, been detecting this area (many fields ) for years. The hammered just keep coming, the jousts must have drawn thousands for many years, they were obviously not a one day event. So they had to be well catered for. The oldest coin I've found from this area was Edward confessor, they mainly though run through short cross right up till charles 1. So obviously the area was still active way past the jousting. The other nice commonly found finds are pendants.

Colin, this area as been getting detected for nearly 30 years (seriously). I think the crowds that came to the tournaments must have been in the 10s of thousands, and as i've said they would not have been a one day event.
