This weeks find - well almost!

This was actually dug many years ago but was "refound" a couple days ago. Cleaning out my storage area/attic. Have a lot of boxes of metal detecting finds in there that I do not presently have a place to display. Already have plans for a bedroom when the kids move out!

This is not your normal crotal bell.

that is REALLY beautiful!! where did you find it??

My best guess would be an old church yard. it was found at least 20 years ago and I was hunting mainly parks schools and church yards.

just curious but what did they use those bells for. i've seen a lot of them found but never found one yet

There were a number of them on a leather straps. They were part of a horse harness.

Love that bell.

That to me is a great find. Anyone can stuble on some old coins. Find a bell like that. It's not likely to happen. There are very few that own a bell like that.

I will be honest and state that when it was found it was not a real impressive item. I was fuly in the coin hunting mode and relics were not all that interesting. Now that I have broadened my thinking I am looking at older finds in a whole different light. I have many bells over the past few years and seen many on forums but none that even come close to this one.

There is some writing on the shank but it is to worn to make it out. I may try to do a highlighting effect to make it readable.

If anyone else has another bell of this type would you please post it. Obviously there has to be others out there as this is not a one of a kind.
