Thought This Was Awesome!!

I went detecting this afternoon on my granddads old place. Remembered this spot I had wanted to check out. Didn't find anything of value but figured this was alot better than any treasure out there.
The thought of what this live oak has seen the last few hundred years is truely mindboggling.

Enjoy this as so many other people have through the centuries.

That is one big tree! I came across an old tree like that during one of my hunts this year. i felt compelled to snap a picture of it. Here it is.

I bet there's at LEAST some Wheaties around there. That tree's just begging to be climbed. We once found over 40 Wheaties around a big white pine that was in a front yard in Michigan

Nice pictures. Evolution, is that a sugar maple? Leaves and bark look like it. I also get a kick out of finding big old trees back in the woods.

I am close to Brownwood. Waco is a few hours east.

I have checked all around it and have only found some lead. I think it still is holding some secrets but it is sooo overgrown that it is hard to check around. It is close to a road so my granddad would never clean up around it. He was afraid someone would come in and poison it or kill it somehow. It was his most favorite tree on the whole place.

If the tree were on my property it would be my favorite as well.
It is nice to see that a piece of your Grandfather's legacy is enjoyed as he felt it should be.
You have a tree with at the very least some recent history.

Save it and pas it along to the future.

Nice powerful trees !! We need those to stay alive you know Should be a law... Any building over 5 stories need to have trees planted on top of them. 8) More trees less concreate !!

Man, those are some big trees. I love em. We have 2 live oaks that are on the Live Oak Society...the largest in my area measured 21.03 and that was back in the 70's. It's a possibility that tree may be registered you can check it out here...it may say Louisiana but there are trees in TX, NC, and other places listed here.

Thanks, I have checked into getting the tree registered and need to take measurements. I will have to find someone to go with me that is not allergic to poison ivy, as it is all over the place around the tree. It doesn't bother me but I would need help get the measurements.
I think that would be a great way to honor the tree my grandfather treasured so much.
