I would go see a Dr. about that TODAY. It might not be serious, but it looks like a bite my Dad had years ago. By the time he went in to the Dr. he needed to have a quarter size piece of skin and muscle surgically removed. It took 2 more minor surgeries to remove dead tissue and over a year to heal. It probably isn't serious, but I wouldn't take the chance.

Take it from me go see your doctor. Looks like it MIGHT be an MRSA infection.

MRSA stands for Methicilin Resistant Staph Aureus, something I have become somewhat of a specialist in. I give presentations to community groups and schools on MRSA.

MRSA is common in the community now and anyone can get it.

Some odd reason I doubt it's either (I'm also a pessimist so take it for what it's worth). Looks like either ringworm or a superficial basilar cell carcinoma. (not wanting to scare you) but go see a doctor. - especially if it is not clearing up.

HI,

Yeah that one don't look good, if it is a spider bite you might just go to the Doctor.
If its a Brown recluce ! Its a bad situation, and the earlyer you get to the Doctor the better.
Not wanting to scrae you, but if you just found it and didn't feel them bite you,
then that is also a clue. Hobo Spiders and Brown reclue spiders you most of the time don't even know your bit !
My neighbor got bit by a obo Spider and he didn't know it, till it got more Infected
then he went to the Doctor. Got Meds for it, and had to cut some of his skin to off.
Better get it checked out. I'll say a prayer for you !

LOL ! Robin

Jeff, thanks for the update. I have seen sores like that spiral out of control, and sometimes very quickly. You did the right thing. If you do have Lyme disease they will be able to catch it quickly and kill the bacteria. It is the people who go undiagnosed for years that have the irreparable damage. At least now you(and us) have peace of mind.

yup. around this time last year i had a spot similar to yours that got big in a hurry, like overnight. turned out to be a skin infection. the doctor said he was glad i came in when i did cause they can get out of control in a matter of hours. i was lucky that my infection responded well to antibiotics, some dont. these days its best not to toy around with stuff like this like we did in the past. there is a lot of new stuff out there that didnt exist when we were kids. :'(

Yeah Jeff did the right thing.

Does it itch when you scratch it, and then hurt a little ?
This happened to me once, I got a spider bite I believe it was.
When I got home I cut an Onion slice and put it on the bite area.
To suck out the poison, I changed the onion slice 3 times in 3 hours.
Once an hour. It releived the pain and itching.
Put Golden Seal root powder with water a poltus on it and a bandaid.
Then for the next 5 days, every day changing the Golden Seal dressing once a day.
I still got a little scar where I was bit, but it healed up real good !
It was a weird bite.

LOL ! Robin

If this is a skin infection, which I still think it is, rather than a bite and you put things on it you will make it much worse.

The type of infection I was talking about causes severe discomfort, burning and itching are symptoms of that type of infection. 95% of all CA-MRSA infections that are missed or misdiagnosed are diagnosed as Spider bites.

Whatever it is Jeff you need to get on the antibiotic right away and not wait until Monday. Don't they have a Walgreens around you anywhere?
