I found this at a colonial cellar hole today, it was abandoned in around 1820, when the owner died and his son didn't want to property. This looks like a tiny brass knee buckle, with the iron tongue still intact. I have to give the T2 SE credit for finding this at three or four inches, and showing a consistent 52 the whole time, without iron masking from all the iron in the buckle. How old do you think it is, and what would a knee buckle this tiny be for, maybe a doll? It also seems to have a simple design on the edge, though that could be from when they made it.

Buckles were used for a lot more purposes back then than today. Then than grammar anyone
I don't think anyone could really say if this is a neck, stock, shoe, or harness buckle, size really does matter (don't let me tell you different either), so my guess would be it came from harness or pet collar, unusual to see dual prongs on such a small buckle though.
congrats on a neat old buckle find!
