Hey Marty nice copper. Unfortunately well never know what that one was. I have spent hours and days picking at toasted ones envisioning flowing hair, chains, and what not . Peroxide wont get the copper disease off of there either. If its the size of a LC then it is probably just that. Now get out and find another one! :icon_thumleft:

Peroxide won't hurt! You may get enough off it to ID. ALL my coppers get "The Bath"!

when i find them that toasted i brush a little muriatic acid on them... that crusty stuff usually comes off in a minute... the coin imediatly oxidizes a white color... it is at this time you can see any detail which is left...at this point you have a minute to look it over before you gotta get it back into the olive oil to soak... after soaking in oil a few days i let it air dry a few days till copper turns dark... then tumble in rock tumbler with water ,a little soap and other worthless pennies.... check hourly as what ever high points on the coin will start to brighten up ... when you get as much detail as its gonna give you .wipe dry and apply a coating of paste wax,let dry ....

You might try this , I use BB's in my tumbler and it works great on Coins. I learned this from watching the U.S Mint on TV doing the same to there coins . I have been using that ever sense , and I use a very light oil instead of water or Tumbling fluid .
