This afternoon at lunch I went for a quick hunt at a spot in the woods that dates from the early 1800s. I recently found an old flat button there, and I was hoping it might have some coins.
I was only hunting a few minutes when I got a faint, deep signal. I dug through the roots and uncovered a toasty green coin, slightly larger than a nickel. When I got home and cleaned it off, I realized I had found a two-cent piece - a first for me.
It's super-toasty and kind of hard to make out the details, but I can clearly see the shield on the front, and in the right light I see the number two on back. It also measures 23mm across, which is the correct diameter.
A pretty cool find for a short hunt - I'm looking forward to hitting the spot again.
Thanks for looking - HH!
