Look's like a "Dandy" button...how big is it?

Yes, looks like a frock button. Probably made out of Tombac between the mid 17 and early 1800's, I have a similar one.

Yep...These are the only two I've found and the one is right at an 1 1/2 the other at 1 3/8.Both from late 1700 to 1800's house's.Nice dig,post a pic when you get it all cleaned up

most dandy's are copper-alloy & plated with silver/gilt, just like the one posted

Excellent button! If you use the "toothpick method" I describe in the link below, you'll be able to see the design very clearly. If you've already used water on it, then it is too late. Take a look.
