Today's hunt.

Started out a little cold this morning. I went to a new spot. An old school that I attended that's is still open.
Found
3 quarters
4 nickels
10 dimes
29 pennies

3 of the pennies were wheats.

A '40
44
44d
Funny thing was, one of the 44's, the d, was wrong. I don't think they made one of these in 44.

Hope you guys can see it.

Are you seeing what I'm seeing? Tell me if you know.

I'm not a super picture taker just yet.
Want to wait until someone says something.

Re: Today's hunt.

Okay, bad pic. I'll try to get a better one.

It is a 44D steel penny.

Re: Today's hunt.

I stand way corrected!! I'm reading the wrong ref. material. Mine says steel in 43 and the rare ones are the 43 coppers actually minted in 42. Thanks for the spanking, I can never learn too much. Bongo

Re: Today's hunt.

Hi Kas,
You might want to be careful when handling the coin. When I was a kid in Jr. High,
we were messing around with some mercury in science class, and I dropped a penny
into it, and it came out looking just like a steel cent.
Another point, steel cents do not fare very well in the ground. I once found a stack
of about 8 or 9 wheats, and in the middle was a steel cent. It was just a blob of rust
in the middle of a bunch of nice wheaties.
I wish the steel cents were worth a little more. My grandmother left me 279 of them.

I was going to say wouldn't you notice the non-iron signal that you got when you dug it? Still an interesting find though. 8) HH
