Re: Today's School Finds

Not yet Leon. Taking my time cleaning it. Only thing I found on train was the #42 on the coal car. The engine was in 2 halves and only found the one side of the coal car. Went back and tried to find the rest-but no luck. They were all in a 3' area about 2-4" down. Jeff, the boat and shovel were detected in a sandbox area. Shovel 1st, then boat, then alum. can underneath, just so you don't think I have plastic mode. ;).

Omni, just water and brass bristle brush to get the dirt off. The brush looks like toothbrush and I used it gently. What rust fixative do you recomend?

Re: Today's School Finds

I wish I could remember the name of the stuff we used when I worked on the ships, was blue, the consistancy of mayonaise and turned rust into this hard black nearly indestructable substance! Anyone heard of it?

Re: Today's School Finds

Thanks guys. DigginD, I figure at least the late 40's. Probably earlier.
CO2, I have gone back but in actual reality am waiting for the demolition as well since the area it came from is also right next to an asphalt basketball court on the backside of the school.
