Hello everyone, this is my first post on the site. I'm new to metal detecting and my buddy Rob(Evolution) said it was essential to join. He was right, the knowledge here is astounding. Anyway....Here are some finds from a site located in my home town...I thought the 1899 Admiral George Dewey Borax Soap Token was a large copper at first, but obviously it wasn't. My buddy Rob was able to pull a 1797 Copper and a 1809 Half Cent from this same site a few weeks back, as you may have seen from his post. Hopefully there are some more coins there!! My first Large Copper eludes me... >:(

I turned in early last night so I wasn't able to respond to this yesterday. Come on dude. Three crotal bells? I haven't even found one yet. Leave some for the rest of us. :tongue3: :laughing7: :laughing7: That token is great too. In some ways much better than a large copper. Certainly in better condition. That place is going to keep kicking up relics and coppers all summer. It's gonna be fun. Keep up the good work man and I'll be seeing you.

I can see why you thought it was a large copper coming out of the ground. Heres what it looked like before the peroxide cleaning. Talk about a "fools copper".

Nice finds,

You'll hit a copper soon. Make sure the pre amp is at 4 and the ac sence at 85 if it will hold. Those coppers get down deep. I hit them between 8 and 12 inches with good tones.

Nice finds. Beautiful photos. And an EXCELLENT first post!

I love those croatal bells too--did either of them have the iron "clapper" still inside?

Regards,

I have found a total of three Crotal Bells at this site, they are all in pretty good shape and all of them do have the clapper intact. I'm thinking of attaching them to my dog's collar... :)

Thats probably how they got lost in the first place. You'll have to go out and search the yard once a month to find them again. :laughing7:

Have you come up with an idea of what the heck that thing is to the left of the crotal bells?

By the way Steve. I was thinking about what this piece could be. I think it may be the casing/cover of a pocket watch. If I recall correctly, there is a picture of a deer on it right?

Rob, I think you may be right about the item w/ the deer etched on it. Looks like it could be a cover to a pocket watch. Here area few more pics.

Do either of the buttons have any backmarks? I think I might see something here but I think my eyes might be playing tricks on me. For that matter, do they have anything on the front?
