I had recently been showing my Grandpa how many old coins and silver I've been finding recently. He was shocked. He used to detect the beaches up in Chicago in his younger days and still has his original Coinmaster.
Last weekend he decided he wanted to get back into swinging and see if he couldn't find any old coins for himself. I figured that the X-Terra 70 would be the best bet for him instead of the Explorer due to a lesser learning curve and MUCH lighter weight. So today I finally got to take him out for about an hour or two at an old park.
Right off the bat I got a really great indian head signal and let him try to find. His machine picked it up beautifully and within 15minutes he had found his first Indian Head, a nice 1902.
We then went to another park because this one was getting full of people about to have some kind of party or something.
Next park within 15-20 minutes he finds a good signal on his own and at about 7" down he finds his first wheat penny with the machine. Now he just needs to get a pinpointer. He wasn't used to digging coins so deep compared to his old original coinmaster. He also enjoyed not digging up trash, just coins.
I finished the day with the following:
HEAVY silver ring
3 Indian Heads (1887, 1902, 1903) One IH I really must have been angry with it and got it THREE times

All in all it was a fun time to get out and detect with family! Now I just need to find a spot where he might be able to scare up some silver!
