Trip to NJ: Met up with Neil in West Jersey & jerseyben. Found a cool silver button?

Was back in New Jersey visiting family for the past few days and was able to get
out with Neil in West Jersey and jerseyben. It was very nice meeting up with them and had a blast!
I picked up an older looking Navy button. Any ideas on age? Unfortunately, I can't read any lettering
on the back.

A bit into the hunt, Ben pulls out a large cent! Couldn't get much details then and
there, so I'll have to check what it ended up being. A few minutes later I got a
12-47 on the e-trac at about 5-6 inches. This is usually a quarter signal. Was
excited thinking it could have been a large cent, but it was quite a surprise (and still very excited) to see
something silver come out of the hole. Does anyone have any idea what it went
to, or what its age could be? Looks hand-engraved. Was thinking it's maybe a
coat button? Weight is 5.5 grams. Although I haven't tested it, I'm 99.9% certain
it's silver. No hallmarks or makings of any sort. Pretty cool though.

Took a video of it while at home:

A big thanks for Neil and Ben for meeting up with me!

Hey Neil! Good hearing from you. Thanks for meeting up with me! The consensus is its a lapel stud. Can't really pinpoint age though. Heard maybe mid 1800s or could even be early 1900s. So we may never know. Someone said Navy button was 1830s so that is a nice treat. Did Ben find out the date on his LC?

Yes, would be great to get together for a group hunt. Neil is now a local front-page celebrity, so I may have him sign my detector. :notworthy:

Is there a backmark on the Navy Button? I am happy to identify it for you, but I need to know that important bit of information first.

Cheers,

Buckles

Hey Buckles! There is no makers mark visible any more on the back unfortunately. Here's a link to the back photo I posted on another forum. Collectors Universe Forums - July 21, 2012: Silver Coat Button? Your input needed.

The other guy said its probably a NA-095 version if that makes sense. Does that sound right to you too?

Thanks for checking!

Does the back screw off? Are there any marks inside?
I think its been IDed, maybe dates from about 1890-1910.

That navy button does not show up in any of my resources with an exact match. Trouble is the eagle with uneven wings looking to the right only appears on a few navy buttons, and they all have rope borders on them. Without a readable backmark, it's a mystery for now. Have you seen my post in the "Cleaning and Preservation" section of the forum on Cleaning Buttons? I would try the toothpick method on the back of this one.

Best Wishes,

Buckles

Started with a Garrett. I think I've probably tried everything make and model from 1977, all the way to the up to the E-trac and GPX 4800.
Nothing new as for me now, I am pretty much handicapped.
