Sorry, I couldn't resist the title after my buddies pointed out all the cold, hard features...

I found this SLQ on a hunt after work with my pal EastCoastHunter21. This was Charlie's spot so thanks again buddy.

It came out black as night... ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1459215525.029527.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1459215505.204790.jpg

I've always wanted to see some sweet beautiful twins. Thanks them for me. Congrats on digging your second. :notworthy:
Thanks Loco. It's my favourite coin of the 20th century. Seems like many other think the same.
Thanks for keeping us abreast of your awesome coin finds! Nyuk nyuk nyuk!

Really is a sweet coin...
Yep. I'm glad I didn't knock this coin around
What a pair .......... of coins :-D
Only one from today. Only with these coins do features go away with rubbing
I might have to buy a type 1 SLQ sunce Ill probably never dig one especially with all her goodies visible
What's funny is the value jumps greatly when the goodies are visible and not worn away:)
Haaaaaaaaaa, that's pretty! :-)

Thanks Brad. Lol

That's one pretty coin.
Congrats
Thanks bud.
It may have been nippy down there, but not cold enough to keep you from knockering it out of the park yet again.

I could go on, but might regret it. More puns left for the rest of you...
Yep, it was fun baggin' that quarter
Awesome find! Can't wait for my first SLQ! Congrats
Thx for looking.
That's in my opinion one of the most beautiful coins there is. Love the SLQs. Unfortunatly I had to buy mine just to have one to look at in the collection. One will land under the coil one of these days. Good find and congrats.
Filler coins are good for holding the spot until you find one. One is coming soon;)
nice to have a pair to play with & nibble on. my only Slick was a no date last summer

Lol. Nice!

Great coins Steve. They sure didn't leave anything to the imagination did they !

Now how did you get that one so sharply clean? awesome early S.L.Q.

The old science lab technique with aluminum foil and baking soda. It's easy to f up a coin with that technique so be careful. I practiced on many, many, newer silver coin before I "graduated" myself to more valuable silvers.

Thanks for looking bud

Steve

That looks GREAT for an early SLQ!!!! Been on my list for a LONG time!!!! CONGRATZ....

Oh Scrappy... I am almost speechless...

That is just about the sweetest SLQ that I have ever seen. Congrats buddy. WOW.

Great find on the Type 1 SLQ. I'd like to hear more about the aluminum foil/baking soda technique. I'm sure others would also.

Very nice buddy. Lots of great detail "exposed" on that one
My wife confirmed, there is nip:)
Great coins Steve. They sure didn't leave anything to the imagination did they !
It was an aberration back then. Imagine your quarters having knockers on them when women were wearing ankle length dresses!
She's a beauty congrats
Thanks for looking

Great find on the Type 1 SLQ. I'd like to hear more about the aluminum foil/baking soda technique. I'm sure others would also.

I'm sure there are many variations but here it is:

Supplies:
Baking soda
Heavy duty aluminum foil
Dash of salt
2 cups water
Q-tips

I combine water, 1 tbsp baking soda, and salt in a stainless steel pot. I. Bring to boil.

Loosely wrap coin in foil WITH SHINY SIDE AGAINST THE COIN with minimum layers. You want the foil close enough so you start seeing coin features while still allowing the liquid to contact the coin, so don't wrap it too tight. Throw that sucker in the pot. Check after 5 minutes by unwrapping coin and gently brushing with a q-tip wetted with solution in pot. Remove any loosened black ****. If nothing comes loose add another tsp of baking soda to solution in pot. Repeat with new foil.

Use minimum heat for a boil to avoid tarnishing from heat.

Use good aluminum foil - cheap stuff can stain

Always start with minimum amounts of baking soda and build from there. If any black is coming off, you already have enough baking soda in the solution.

This takes time. Usually 6-10 Dips and sometimes more.

Be patient and don't rub hard with the q-tip. That'll polish the coin.

Practice on some modern silver coins first before attempting on old/valuable coins.

Enjoy!!

Scrappy, those 1917 S.L.Q. are awesome .now for my information of your post of twins .is the one on the left type 2 and the one on the right type 1 with the exposed breast. It will be almost impossible to beat a pair like those.

Nah, they're both type 1's. The other is just worn a bit and you can't make out quite as many details;)

SWEET! :icon_cyclops_ani: haha The SLQ eludes me and that's one killer quarter dude.

Wow-you can even see cleavage! Don't rub it too hard Scrappy lol

This is true. I started detecting when I was a teenager in the mid 90's. Grew up in a very old house with a yard full of LCs, IHPs and silvers. I had a buddy who also detected and we both had Whites Coinmaster machines. He was over one day and we were swinging in my yard and he nails a SLQ in an area I had covered many times. That was the closest I came to finding one of those. :laughing7: (I was kicking myself for not finding it first too)

And with the way things have been going for you with all that colonial goodness, you'll never find one! Lol.

Oh my virgin eyes!! I hope you didn't rub it after you dug it :tongue3:
