Seeing as the only patch of plough field I can do right now is less than productive I decided to go to the local park.
My aims in this order were:
1) Enjoy Life - Done
2) Find silver ring - Failed
3) Find a pre-1900 coin - Hit the jackpot
4) Find lots of Clad - Did OK

Spent 3 hours digging lots of trash as no-one bothers detecting this park.

It was warm enough to wear just a T-shirt :o

I dug a very deep enamelled bowl - complete :)

Not far away I had a nice deep sounding signal which I could clearly hear even though I never use earphones :P I dug about 8 inches into a natural gravel bar (I'm close to the river) & out popped a very rare coin. I instantly reconsized it as it had a copper plug;
1690-1692 - William & Mary Tin Halfpenny. In the 2005 book it starts in fair condition at £75 going upto £2500 in EF. I collect coins & this is one I could never afford so its a welcome addition & in good condition considering :) :) :) (1000 times rarer than a roman coin)

Got £5.19 in spendable money - $10.
Iron Axe
Worn cica 1880s Penny
Stunning complete WWI era Salvation Army Badge (remember found my first broken one less than 1 week ago)
A Whatzit cartridge - see the 1965 Qrt that I found for scale. Its massive, I think its the starter cartridge for the old plane engines??

Happy Hunting one & all ;D

Thanks, it is when I thought the park was only 150 years max.

Its my oldest coin from grass land. I don't normally get older than 1700s from unploughed soil.

I checked the local By-laws & no mention of a ban. So being public land I fill the plugs in neatly & chat with the dog walkers & all is well :) Rabbits make more of a mess than I do. Love to see the Police have a go.

A park hunt, LOL, obviously a lot of fun, congrats on the finds! That Salvation Army Badge is nice. HH, Mike

Very excellent find Crusader, I am glad the condition of it is as good as it is for being a Tin Halfpenny! But then again, maybe tin does better than copper in soil?

Here are the photos I have from an old book(1965) on your finds. :)

Wow, I wish I could find a 1600's coin at my local park. I do the "happy dance" when I find an 1800's coin.

Nice job, Crusader, hunting a different venue and scoring a great find!

Thanks Don that means alot coming from a knowledgeable chap like yourself. I was stunned by the condition as the closest I have come in a ploughed field wasn't even worth keeping. I guess the gravel helped. Its got pride of place in my 1/2 Penny collection. I only need about 12 to complete the whole lot. This was none of them ;D
