Under the floor boards in the attic

So I've been living in this house for about a year now and today something told me to give the attic a closer look so I grabbed a flashlight and went up to see what I could find. I had always thought the house was built around the 20's it's a 4 square style with a cool 4 window attic in NEPA. All the floors are original hardwood but there are places where the boards were tore up for electrical work. Nothing was sitting there in the open for me to find but when I shined the light under the floor and peaked my head in I started finding some truly amazing things. First was a medal from the 1911 reunion of the elk lodge in Atlantic City. Then an old navy button and an amazing 45 star American flag! It's 55 by 34 inches and I want to get it framed to preserve it asap (any thoughts on value would be appreciated though it won't be sold). Then a pack of smokes and some amazing hand painted signs the last of which had a note from the original homeowner to his wife on the back which best I can tell must be over 100 years old and explains that he sold hand painted signs to local businesses. It was a great day found a ton of history about the people who used to call my house home. Any opinions or insight is appreciated, thanks. Defiantly have tried this before with to avail.
CONGRATS All the way!

Full sealed pack of Chesters? Worth some bucks if so!

Sweet finds. I do not know the value of the American flag but the years it was made are from 1896-1908. Still looks like it is in pretty good shape too. :icon_thumright:

Spanish American War bring back? Would be that era. What a great find, and a great notion to go look in the first place. Nicely done!

Incredible finds! I found a pile of late 1980's kid's stuff under the floorboards of my old house, even some Alf Playing cards lol, it was built around the 1870's (though listing said 1905, I found it on maps from the 1870's and 1880's, and did deed research to back it up). Nothing compares to your finds though! Absolutely incredible, and in great condition! I love finding stuff inside houses, my current house has two foot wide pumpkin pine floors upstairs, with half inch gaps in between them. Who knows what could have gotten under them in over 270 years of use, right away I picked out two 1960/70's looking beads. Old houses are always awesome to explore, you never know what history you will discover or what you will find. It is crazy to think that 100 years ago there were people living in the exact same place as you do now. Finding artifacts from them is even cooler!

Awesome, makes me want to tear into the walls here haha.

Hi, Awsome finds but no under floor fine dust on them ? TP

They were filthy lol. Brushed or blew most of it off but they could still all be cleaned much better. The flag was rolled up so only the end had much dust and dirt.

Nice assortment of finds MackDigger. FWIW - About 3 years ago I bought a 1860 Percussion Army Colt - yuppa - the seller found it in the attic of his newly purchased 100 year old house under a floor board! Wonder how many members are running upstairs and lifting a few of the floor boards!:laughing7:

Great story and finds. You did what I've always wanted to do. Find something worthy in an attic. Congrats. I'd keep it all together in a display. Then I'd see if I couldn't locate a photo somehow of the original owners to put a face with those objects.

So neat! That was quite a few finds! There's no place like home!
