We have pictures of the house around 90 years ago, the place where i found the items (in the woods) was once a large field.

i've seen peices like that at the construction dump..look like pipe shavings..
sometimes a little bit of the pipe needs to be cut or shaved off to fit properly..could be that too i guess

You know...I just love this forum....had I found items like that in my yard or anywhere else, I would consider it basically junk and had no idea of what they were and thrown them away.

This is a very imformative board and it's great everyone shares their finds with others. Gives us a better insight of what found items may be or could be.

Great finds!!!!

MODIFIED HERE: I have found pieces of pipe at the oceanfront...more on the bay side (Chesapeake Bay)...I saved for a bit and just threw away yesterday. Hubby said they were old piping. But some had paint on them...so I considered it junk and threw away...maybe I should have kept them now??? It was giving me COIN sound when I found them.

Could also be lead filler from a joint in an old cast-iron sewage pipe?
Gord

It is lead and oakum...........old way pipes were joined.....however it is a lost art form......as far todays plumbing is concerned........I find these alot.....once i dug one about 10 inches in the ground at the base of a old tree....i thought i had a winner.......it is proof of a torn down building though.....HH
