You'll recall Earthworks found a 1946 gold class ring and tracked down the owner and it was in two newspapers (more at link below if you missed it). Below that is obit in the paper of the man who owned the ring, he just passed away, but lived a good long life and Earthworks gave him a nice gift of his ring back a few months before he died.

August John (sonny) Wiedemann Jr.
CHATHAM, N.Y. - August John (Sonny) Wiedemann Jr., formerly of Hopewell Junction, passed away Monday morning, April 10, 2006 peacefully at his Chatham home with his beloved wife, Ruth and friends at his bedside, following a long illness. Sonny is finally at rest and will be celebrating his first Holy Week in Heaven. He was born in New Rochelle on Dec. 29, 1928 to August J. Wiedemann Sr. and Marion (Hanfling) Wiedemann. A 1946 graduate of Iona Prepatory School, Sonny moved to Dutchess County in the early 1950s. He owned and operated Four Maples Farm where he raised chickens, pheasants, ducks, sheep, pigs and boarded horses. In 1977, he opened Four Maples Fish Market, which supplied many Hudson Valley restaurants as well as retail customers with fresh seafood directly from Cape Cod and Rhode Island. He operated Four Maples Fish Market until his retirement in 1989. Sonny provided for his family throughout his life solely through self-employment. Sonny was more than an avid hunter and fisherman enjoying the great outdoors each and every day of his life. He was a member of the Ghent Sportsman Association, Ducks Unlimited, Challenged Sportsmen of America and the Buckmasters Handicapped Division. Throughout the course of his life, he made trips to more than a dozen states as well as Canada in pursuit of his outdoor passions. His greatest enjoyment in his later years was the fact that he had his trophy animals surrounding him in his home along with his many photo albums of memories to share with friends and family. Though only 3-year residents of Chatham, Sonny and his wife established strong friendships with many of their neighbors and caring people in the community who helped the family through these last difficult years. The family would like to thank especially Dr. Vinod Gupta in Hudson, the wonderful nurses and aides on the second floor at Columbia Memorial Hospital and the compassionate staff and caretakers of Community Hospice of Columbia/Greene. Sonny is survived by his wife of 28 years, Ruth (Phillips) Wiedemann in Chatham, as well as his sister, Marie (Dolly) Hutcheson of Port Orange, Fla. In addition, he is survived by four daughters from his first marriage to Sally Gero, Therese (Terry) and her husband, Harry Coris in Beacon; Joanne Wiedemann and her companion, Walt VanLeuven in Milan; Christine and her husband, James Bellizzi in Wappingers Falls; and Michelle Wiedemann in Beekman. Sonny is also survived by his stepchildren, Lisa Morris and her companion, Phil Malinovsky in Poughkeepsie; and Scott Morris and his wife, Betsy in Austin, TX. Scott has been blessed with grandchildren who also survive him, Eleni & Michael Coris, Jessica Wiedemann, Paloma & Marina Bellizzi and Elyzabeth & Zachary Morris. He is also survived by two nieces, Claudia and her husband, Jose Castro and Janice Hutcheson. Calling hours will be 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, at Wenk Funeral Home, 21 Payn Ave., Chatham. For directions to the funeral home, call (518) 392-2909. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 12, at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Rd., Hopewell Junction, with burial immediately following at St. Denis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Sonny requested that donations be sent to either Community Hospice of Columbia/Greene or any organization that would benefit the education of youth in relation to the environment and wildlife.
