Well, keep going back to the farm b/se it yields interesting finds and is close to my house. Quick hunt produced: some sort of hitch, horse shoe, some sort of farm tool that I'm getting identified in the What is it forum and a very cool copper Peter's shotgun shell.

Here's a close up of the side of the Peters cartridge. It's very ornate for a shell, plus the stem is metal further down, which I'm not used to seeing. The back has Peters No 16 Ideal. I'm trying to ascertain the date of the cartridge, any ideas?

Ahhh, high base brass. I love the look of it - first one of that type that I have found. Also first one of 16 gauge I have found. It's very ornate for a shell...that's what really surprised me. The old Peters cartridge co. location was pretty close to where I live. Looks early in their history, but that's just a guess. I found a pre 1911 UMC shell 12 gauge pretty close to where I found this one.

Well, the scissor looking thing has been identified in the "What Is It" forum - thanx to the incredibly helpful Tnet members! Seems it is this:

"The chatelaine was used by women to attach items they used daily, not only there sewing items, but could also include a small watch, keys, letter seal, perfume bottles, note pads as examples. The chatelaine was also worn for fashion and many were very ornate which were made in silver or gold with many different designs. "

Here is the post, so you can see other, more modern, examples:
