Large lost silver medal from a forgotten war on the "Foreigner Gold Line'
hi all.
History Gold was discovered 1852 by an irishman and the quartz saddle reef quickly got the name "Paddy's Reef" By 1854 the claims became larger and mines deeper. Many claims were brought out those who had the money to invest in machinery for deep hard rock mines. With mine names like Catherine the Great, Koch, Tacci, Mungo and many others. Germans, Russians, Sweds, Italians and many others owned and worked these mines. By 1870 Northern section of Paddy's Reef was renamed "Foreigner Line"The largest number of mines was during the Great Depression [1920,s] as the price of gold went up 3 fold.
Over the Easter Week i have been working the ground above where the faults dip too the left .this area was where the small mine claims existed. Found a few areas of shatty miner huts and the old dray track. After 4 trips which amounts too 15 hours i have only 2 keepers. 1850's half penny tea token and a large Romanian War medal from 1913.
