Beautiful day today so I had to go detecting. Since I've discovered that beach hunting can be great for relic hunting (given the right kind of beaches) I've been researching several other areas nearby.

I went back to the area of beach where the majority of the musketballs came from and really combed that area. it is well away from the area where I found the cannonballs but there is still a chance of a cannonball from this site as well but not as likely. I immediately started finding the lead which always makes me happy. I found a few things which are going up on the What is It forum as I don't have a clue. I also found what appear to be two clay marbles but given where they were found I don't know. They were down at the extreme low tide line and were both found together.

The find of the day was also the biggest coincidence of the day. This morning before i left I posted in another thread about quartz arrowheads being common in this area. Well, I've never found one in this specific area but while walking the high tide line this one pops up! It's a beauty as well and one of the best I've found.

Wild you can get out and bring something home every day. But it's not that far now, and I find the Winter is going very fast.

Believe me, no one is as surprised as me!

We've been out mid. March before but dealing with snow or frost isn't worth it. This Winter I think if we can dig fields mid April we'll be doing well.

The larger lead pieces may be ingots to be melted down into musket balls...still looking for confirmation.

Me too...and totally unexpected. There is a field near where I used to live where I could pick up arrowheads on every hunt but this is the first I've found "in the wild". Big surprise.

Wow Romeo that's a beauty!

I eyeballed one last summer as well, but yours is much nicer. It looks like it could still kill something. My point is dull. :notworthy:

Guys, I am seriously going bananas this winter. The amount of snow has been insane, but there is a lot of rain coming tomorrow. Hopefully this speeds up the process and gets ous out there by mid march!

Nothing more fun then finding the relics and coming across a nice artifact during the hunt. I often end up artifact hunting when I am suppposed to be metal detecting. That is a nice quartz knife you found.
