hi!
thought you guys here might know more about this than me! I have a small cannon ball with a ring that pops out around it... and two circles on each end. it weighs 147 grams and is 1.25 inches across... my thoughts are the ring is meant to be tighter in the cannon to shoot further or possibly canister shot? this was found by a friend around fort george,
any thoughts?

Sorry to have to disappoint... but no cannonballs or Grapeshot balls or Canister-ammo balls had a raised "belt" on them, which we see in the photos of your iron ball.
