Hello Again,
been hunting again in the mudflats off New Castle NH,
many good finds, few days back I got a 1788 mass copper.
The last few days have yielded The following items, 2 Buttons,
(The first one had a sand encrustation on back, thought it might be a gold token),
Looks like barley sheaves on front, 9/16" diameter
The second has a wheeled artillery piece, And a pile of cannonballs, below, it appears to say 'corps', 3/4" diameter, (ID By Deepdiger60 THANKS!!)
A brass shoe buckle, 1-1/8 X 1-5/8
Any help with id or dating of these would be appreciated.
A spoon marked '1847 rogers bros' This is fairly modern plate I believe.
An ornate butterknife marked 'Royal Silver Company'
Brass lockplate, (no lockbox or contents found.)
Heavy, (no Kidding) lead ingot marked 'B' ?
Brass case Eberhard Faber carpenters pencil
A 62d Rosie. and various copper & brass pieces for my 'Assorted scrap' box.
also, a sealed, hollow cylinder, 2.5" X 3/4", posted in Whatsit, Maybe a submunition ?

Also found a square stock iron bar, about 4 ft, worked to a sharp point, whaling dart?
I think this area is going to give up an escudo or other old gold at some point, if I keep working it, no more room for pix in this post. I am gonna try to get some work done today, tides not out till late afternoon.
Best to all T-Net Members & Good Luck !!
Herbie

Re: MUDFLAT FINDS (BETTER PIX ADDED)

Very cool stuff. I've always wanted to detect around New Castle & Portsmouth having grown up in Portsmouth and knowing the history. One of my favorite places to hang out and try to imagine what it might have been like during the Revolutionary War is Fort Constitution in New Castle.

Nice finds. I like the cannon button. The Eberhard Farber pencil if it is not flat but round is a style they call a "bullet pencil." They are collectible in their own right.
