I got three so far, all the same.

As I understand it they are mostly all plain front, so that one with some design on it must be a rare one ?

That one looks real solid / nice shape too.

Is there anything on the back ?

Many have designs, we just don't dig them in great enough numbers to see it. Then of course there's military blowhole back (Artillery is the most common) but they date a bit later - 1790s or so.

Nothing on the back...just the shank and the requisite holes...it is pretty solid though!

Yes, and I suppose the person who wrote that they are almost all plain hasn't seen / dug that many either.
I know with that flat buttons I've dug it's something like 10 plain to 1 with some kind of decor, and on that blow hole button thread awhile back not many diggers had more than a dozen of them.
