I have found a lot of them everywhere near the river I metal detect, most of them have a hole in it. The ones I find are lead and they look like yours.

Thanks Dug, that makes complete sense. There is one of the oldest, abandoned, Boy Scout camp sights nearby in the woods where I'm detecting. I have found countless silver coins and Wheaties there, not to mention a boatload of necktie holders and penknives ha ha.

Exactly, thats why not everything is CW period!

It's part of tent rope securing, I think used to control rope tension. Nice find.
