it may be slag, let me tell you why i think so,the top left pic,i see what looks like air bubbles/pocks where there was air bubbles, the second down on the left same, air pockets, and the greenish material you said seems sorta (melted),chip a tiny bit and see if it appears glassy.
Hi loco, I don't know?...I've plenty of different slag from the same shores I keep/bring home (on purpose) to study/compare when needed...(guess I better 'get my butt in gear')so I've time for grinding & pics before lights-out! :) Thanks again for the input.

.. TJE...is it magnetic? I have one that sounds sort of like yours and have had it for years, it makes a compass move. I think mine is a mixture of several things because of volcanic activity. I'll post a pic for you...it also greenish with a rust look, but think the "rust" is maybe a "jasper" additive? View attachment 924472 View attachment 924473 View attachment 924474
Hey ck, that 'little one' you say leaving no streak and highly magnetic!...have you had it checked out yet?

Well...I'll still be waiting & watching to see what happens here...:)

Well...at least I remember who boroughed it! ha...lost many tools (lent out and forgotten about). The "burnt look" is another sign, along w/magnetic, no streaking. Just may surprise you!

Good you recalled who the borrowed it....it's usually books I don't get back. :( You know, I got my little stone and took another look, retested on toilet cover lol and found a spot that did make a streak (although I have read something new that said you really can't go by that test now!)....so....don't know if it's worth reposting? It's probably just some rock mixed with magnetite or something like that. Think I can even see a tiny spot of "quartz", don't think a meteorite would have that? Hope your drill works and you discover something wonderful! If not....it's the experience that counts, right?

Well...won't be discovering anything in this stone tonight! Buddy I lent it (dremmel) to is 3 hrs. away and they can't drive home, the winter storm that's all over the news rolled in/started about 2 hrs. ago here.... All heavy snow/wind/whiteout driving conditions, deep freeze coming behind it they say.

First thought seeing this is limonite. Did you do the streak test?

What was the result on the streak test? What colour did you get?

Limonite can be found as a coating on certain rocks. Especially those containing sulphides.
The interior might be a thing for it's self. I've seen amphiboles which were green inside, but rusty outside.

Well, got my dremmel returned, used a diamond bit on the stone..grinded for about 15 min. on an area (very hard stuff), it shines dark green w/rust spots like the exterior (minus the shine). Wish I had better pics, but it's the best I can do for now. 2014-01-11 18.06.40-1.jpg 2014-01-11 18.16.29.jpg 2014-01-11 18.17.21-1.jpg 2014-01-11 18.17.04-1.jpg 2014-01-11 18.07.44.jpg

All meteors are radioactive, swing a Geiger counter over it to see if she clicks. This does not look like a meteorite to me though. Its a conglomeration of igneous rocks... but it looks interesting.

The dust you got from grinding, what colour was that? I think you may want to open it up with a hammer so we can see inside of it.
