Yes avoid them by all means. As the person above said, go with a coiltek. Check with Mike at Woodlanddetectors.

well, i want a smaller coil for trashy areas. I like what I have heard about the SEF Butterfly coils and 6x8 seems to be a good size.

Any more suggestions?

I have an Explorer SE, but I am pretty sure the Etrac coils are interchangeable with SE...
