About 5 to 6 inches on a 1918 penny in good soil...It was VERY IFFY, and it is a miricle I dug it......That was with the sniper coil.....I have found a pulltab on the other hand at a good 8 inches..(for sure) The Ace would be great if it just had a tad more depth to it....Come on techies out there..............It is hard sometimes to say how deep coins really are, at least for me...Most of what I have found out of 100 to 200 coins with the 250 have been very shallow 2 inches or so....At the site I found the 1918, I know there is alot of other stuff there, just out of range of the ACE.......Tom

Please don't yell !
6 inchs seems to be the maximum depth for 250 for coin sized targets with the standard coil and average soil type. you can squeeze out 8 inches using the 12 inch coil in loamy soil.

The day after a LONG awaited rain , I went out in my yard for a
couple hours and found a '61 silver dime at about 8". :) I was
really excited so I went and got my camera and tape measure and
went to the hole , replaced the dime and put the tape measure down.
Ouch :( .......just barely over 6 inches :P , For me at least, those
holes have a way of growing deeper to the eye ball when you're all
excited. oh well I'm always happy to get silver at any depth ;)

I've found coins at 8", but mostly 4" to 6" is normal.

At or just shy of 7 inches........a mercury dime at a park in humid soil conditions. I was carrying around a small makeshift shovel at that time, cut a cone shaped plug, pulled it out and flipped it over. Because the soil was moist, it all stuck together. At the tip of the coil was a shiny rim. The dime signal was good and constant. I remember pulling a wheat at about 6 1/2 in dry soil. The signal was on the dime, but jumpy.
