I didnt find these coins, but were givent to me 2 years ago for my graduation. My neighbor gave me the entire set of mercury dimes. I almost had to sit down when I opened it. She is an older lady and has been like my grama since for ever. I told her I couldnt accept it but she just said, "What would an old lady do with these coins".

according to the "2007 red book" here are the prices and grades for that 1916-d:

Once i found a 1881 shield nickel sitting on the ground at the creek.Was worth $250!!!!!Really good for a 12 year old.

How about the Gold 1 Escudo coin being RAFFLED off at the TREASURE HUNTERS EXPO this 29th of July.
Minted in Seville Spain in 1622 during the rein of Philip III.
Cost per ticket is $1.00.

Hello to all, Nice to be here. I have found two 1918 Filipinas Centavos Sorry I don't have a picture of these. And I have also found a 1875 three cent nickel. If anyone has any info I would appreciate it.

I read through this thread and did'nt see this one listed, so I'll add it.
This spring I found an 1895 O barber dime. The key date in the barber
series. It's undamaged, but worn enough to put it in the G3 - G4 range,
but a nice coin to find.

Here are two of my most valuable coins that I have dug!

Back in 2004 I dug this 1916 D mercury dime in Ohio. I have never had it graded but it appears to be between VG8 and F12.

Then in Oct 06 I dug my find of a lifetime a 1792 half disme. It was authenticated and graded. The obverse is G4 and the reverse G3. Thanks for looking!

Found this earlier this year and it is a Corteluvia tribe south ferriby type Gold Stater dated around 50 BC. Not worth loads but i guess in $USA around $1400 and also a nice Vespasian Emperor Silver Denarius. Spinks book implys its value is around $2000 ish which currently i have no photograph

My most valuable coin found was probably the 1992-D close AM penny found back in April searching through some pennies from the bank.

Still haven't figured out how much it is worth.

Guessing it is in the $100 to $1000 range though based upon its grade and everything I have been able to find on the subject.

found in northen MI approx. 7 or 8 yrs ago at 10 inches+ down while detecting an old church yard.


Value at time found = $3500.00

Value now = $4500.00 to $5500.00

Sold it 2.5 yrs ago. Kept pics of it.

In England (The Country, not the State), most coin dealers will make copies of them (Even if you don´t want to sell them), and if allowed to do so, will give you 3 or 4 free copies for the pleasure of doing so (Thereafter they sell copies to the punters). May be some of your coin dealers do this too, well worth checking up on, as a copy is better than a photo, or not ?

The most valuable coins that I have found have been TWO 1916D Mercury Dimes. I found one in park, around a ball diamond, and the other was found in an old house front yard. I wasn't very experienced at carefull digging so notice the nics that I made while poking around. I have learned my lesson the hard way.

I found this coin this year with a metal detector at a very old farmsite in upstate New York. It's a 1786 Vermont colonial copper coin. In the redbook its referred to as a Vermontensium coin. I've looked at a couple of auctions online of this coin. Stack's rare coins just auctioned one off that was in AU58 condition for $14,375.00. An example in worse condition than the coin I have went for just over $1200.00. I assume mine might be worth 1,000.00 to 1,500.00. I still have the coin and will most likely not sell it. I collect coins. Metal detecting is a great way to add to the collection.

Not my most valuable, but one of my favourites as it was the first Roman silver I found in mainland Europe

Well it wasnt metal detecting..only been at that 2 weeks. (clad city but having fun)
But I do have a find to be proud of...an 1892 CC morgan in VF condition at a pawn shop for $20. PCGS lists it at $385. I'd say that qualifies as a "discovery". It was naturally toned and dark..the guy couldnt believe I wanted it instead of some of his very obviously cleaned and polished shiny common date morgans....how little he knew.

This is my best find.

This is a genuine Spanish 8 reale coin with mint error.

Bought it from a dealer in Spain who thought it was a reject so he sold it to me for about 26 EUR!
