I found a 1909 Indian Head with my metal detector years ago. I think it was worth around $20 in its condition.

Summer 2009 in a vacant lot in San angelo TX I dug a 1896S Mogan, It was an AU-50 worth about 800 USD.

1901 s Barber Quarter, in 2007, value in the redbook at that time $7000.00 in g-6, sold for $4200.00./ Sometimes i wish i had it back.....

The Most expensive coin I ever found was a 1889-O VAM 13B Crumbled Stars Morgan Silver Dollar. The coin was in UNC condition and was worth $1,500-$5,000 if graded depending on MS grade MS60 would be around $1,500, MS62 would be $2,500 MS63 = $5,000 and so on. I did not have the money to grade it and sold it for $250. The main reason I sold it was because there was a slight possibility that PCGS would not have graded it as BU because of a very insignificant nick in the hair of liberty. I only paid $50 for it so I made some money and was happy. The cool thing is I have actually owned (3) 1889-O VAM 13B coins the other 2 were not in UNC condition and were only worth $100-$300 each but it was cool to find (3) of the same RARE variety.

I even discovered a NEW variety in the 1883-O Morgan Dollar Series. The VAM I discovered is VAM 1F2 http://www.vamworld.com/1883-O+VAM-1F2

Just started about a month ago 1940 mercury dime and I found a buffalo nickel. I just started so I guess thats ok for now.

1917 merc dime, it took me 2 years of mding to find it,so it is my most valuable find because it was the first. ive found lots of other things, but this merc was special. suprdave

A 1916-D walking liberty half dollar or my 1922 peace dollar found in my front yard. I did find a 1901 barber quarter, but it didn't have a mintmark I still have all of them in my collection.

Well I don't really know about the value of my coins, I guess I have about 200+ old (040-1700) silver coin but only 9 gold ones. Some people, when they find a coin the first thing they do is look up to see how how much it is worth. I don't, that does not interest me. But they say it determines how rare it is, and I can understand that.

I do have quite a few valuable silver coins, I am sure of that. Most are english coins from the period from 1100-1500. From my gold coins these two are my favorites.

The first is a Lucca, a nice gold coin in good condition from Lucca Italy.
The second is a gold Tremissis, from Garoaldus Mainz from 650 AD.

a 1916 d mercury found may 2011. Sent it out for grading. Came back GD-4 environmental damage. Still worth 300.00

I dug a Colonial Ducat within my first few months of detecting. (Location,Location...)
It is probably my most valuable coin, but its 'Value' is less than $1K
pretty good condition. (despite the shovel ding on top, was digging another target when this appeared in the pile)
I value it highly, and would much rather keep it than have a few Benjamins.
It feels so nice in hand
I often think of the chestful of these thin wafers it was taken from,
I have always had the feeling it was pilfered, then lost from the stocking or shoe where it was secreted.
and how many hundreds of people were within feet of it through the years.

I found a 1962 Franklin Half Dollar while CRH. I guess it's worth its weight in Ag, and yes, I still have it.

This may be WAY after the fact,(the survey ended in 2004!) but about fifteen years ago when I was still teaching, we got out early from school one day because of snow.
I hightailed it to my (then) favorite digging spot, the site of an 18th century county seat. Almost as soon as I started to hunt, I got a good signal and dug a small silver coin under about three inches of snow and about five inches of dirt.
Since I couldn't tell what I had because of the mud, I did the worst possible thing--rubbed the mud off to see what I had. It turned out to be a 1797 half- dime in near perfect condition--that is, except for the tiny hairline scratches I put on it wiping it off.
I put the coin away for several years, but one day while looking at a recent coin book, I noticed that this one was fairly rare. I decided to have it sent to one of the grading companies and have it slabbed. It came back "almost uncirculated, cleaned (because of the tiny scratches imparted when I rubbed the mud off)
We advertised the coin on a popular auction website, and it brought ten thousand two hundred dollars!(which went to the landowners minus a finder's fee) This is minus the approximately $1000 rub-the-coin-with-no-water stunt I pulled!
