Well, I found, in the back yard of a 200+ year old home, a damaged ax head 10" down that was probably used to clear the land for the home construction. Found with my XLT while checking the yard. A 3/4 grooved Archaic stone axe, I was told it was 8,000 – 5,500 BP. Made me sit right down and think about the time span from when it was lost to when it was found.

Hi; My Oldest Finds came from England. I used to go every year. In 1988 I found a Viking Cheiftains Sword from the Battle of Brough in 912 AD. It is now in the Doncaster National Museum in Doncaster England. I also found a Silver Hammered Penny from King Richard 3rd. 1189 Ad. That's Richard the LionHearted. !!!v His face was on the front with the Christian Crusades Short Cross on the Reveres.
American : 1670's Pewter Button and a 1693 King William and Mary 1/2 Pence.

I assume the farther down something gets the older it is for the most part. And I'm sure the type of soil and detector play a large roll as well, but I'm curious as to just how old of stuff you guys have been able to find? Sorry if that's a stupid question but I'm curious to know.

My wife, but she's still a "keeper" found her in the late "70's.
