What's Up With The 1997 Halves?

Started back on halves after a decent box over the weekend and I remembered a question I always meant to ask when I was doing halves regularly - Did they do anything different in 1997 as far as how they were minted? Every time I come across a rim that looks like a proof it is almost always a 1997 - Same goes for the obverse and reverse - They look almost like proofs in the near mirror like appearance. I have compared proofs with some of the 1997's and side by side, some are hard to tell apart unless the proof is a cameo.

Has anyone else noticed this year as ones that stand out?

Yes, the 1996p halves are really shiny, I average at least 50 out of 1000 coins per box...
