First make sure you are aware of the local laws concerning metal detecting/relic hunting. Then decide what you are interested in finding. If you can (legally), start in some local parks to get used to your machine. If you want old stuff, there are some old maps available on line or at your local library. Study the history of your area. Look for any place people would have gathered together (church, school, tavern, mill...). Get permission and start swinging.

Hi Skins. I just signed up today but I have been to the Indian River Inlet in Delaware a year ago. After a big strom you could go about 1/4 mile North of the Inlet, that is where the Faithful Stweard sank. Coins were found there by the buckets in the 1930's giving the area the name "Coin Beach" I didn't find anything except other Metal Detectorist and Surfers. Good Luck and Merry Christmas Slomoe
