Where to start?

I've done the research and narrowed down to just over 1/2 mile square where a camp existed for one night that was attacked early the next morning. The initial hunt was on a couple of ridges nearby, but didn't turn up anything. Maybe I should have started down by the nearby creek, where the old road intersected it. Suggestions?

I would see if there were any houses that were near there at the time they liked to camp near them and the creek would be a good place to start to nothing better than fresh water, good luck!
