I was able to locate a foundation using a map overlay feature.
Spotted the apple trees & Rhubarb patch, knew I was close.
then a square well :icon_scratch: first one seen...
It is on a hill right beside some old RR tracks, and I mean right next to them.
mostly so full of tangled briars, it's inaccessible without bodyarmor.
There's a small grassy clearing (picnic area?), and the spots the deer cleared around the apple trees. I still lost a pint of blood :D
Apparently, someone was in the habit of taking flatware from a prestigious local hotel.
I think I found 6 spoons here,
best find, Aluminum 'Midol' box with coins inside :hello2:
Two wheats, two Silver war Nickels, and a worn 1917D merc. (my last merc was an Xfine
1916 without the D :'( )
My first buffalo nickel with a date.. (not in the box)
Anyway, a new site found, I'll get back there later in the season with brushpants
& see if I can pull anything else.
Does anyone have idea of what the inscribed brass thing might be?
Unfinished furniture trim? keyhole scribed, but uncut... design looks older than the other finds, it is slightly curved.
Thanks for looking! HH all ;D

Willie,Looks way to big for that.
Hehe, guess my eyes weren't open all the way this morning. That and nothing to compare it to size wise. :dontknow:

Willy, The piece is about 1-3/4 X 2-3/4", a little under 2mm thick.
If the solder marks were on the long axis, I'd assume it was a barrette.
Maybe some type of strap guide or ornament?

Your oval piece may be either the letter "O" or the number "0" (as in zero). Possibly part of a name on mailbox, part of a house address number, or possibly previously attached to a wooden post as part of a number related to the railroad. HH Andi

Thanks g-olden years,
this was my initial assumption when dug, only after seeing those solder marks did I start to think differently.
Have found several 'Number' items in my diggings, usually with holes from nails.
a 'Could be' though. thanks for the tip

Thanks Blaze, riverdiver & Michiganne,
From the front I'd guess that piece was a bridle rosette, the attachments are different than any seen, the crosshatched casting pattern on rear remind me of something fairly modern, in other words, I have no idea :icon_scratch:
