Why Are So Few Standing Quarters Found?

In my own hunting i find more Barber and Seater quarters than Standing. Maybe everyone made rings out of them. That was real popular back then.

Quick read of a google article: only minted for 15 years, very low mintage in 1916.

Just running some rounded numbers, the total mintage for standing quarters for the entire run was about 227 million for 15 years. Compare that to Washington quarters, where the mintage for 1964 alone was 1264 million! As for Barbers, the rough total was about 265 million, minted over 25 years. I'd have to think the higher numbers of Barbers found nowadays has something to do with the improved technology over the 1970's machines.

I remember Zeb saying something about when a coin falls it hits on edge and flops over on it's side. This could have something to do with so few standing quarters being found. ;)
