You mean "don't run with scissors", Bill ?

Gotta admit I've had more that a bit of fun with my suggestion that Travis might have gained the extra funds to buy a brand new Olds via his connection with B&C. That maybe he had known or guessed where they had hidden some of their loot, and even weapons like the Colt 1911 he carried .
But you have to keep in mind where these bits of Travis' history came from in the first place. It was gleaned from the recollections of Tumlinson family members as they were interviewed by RG and included in the videos he posted. A scene was also included of the campsite where Travis was said to have delivered sundries to the pair while they were hiding out in the area. Although no dates were given as to when this meeting or meetings occurred, it's not a stretch to assume some measure of familiarity/friendship and trust was involved, IMO.

Wayne, I don't see any involvement between Travis' escape and Clyde. Travis had walked off from Ferguson 15 months prior to Clyde's raid on Eastham. Here's a pretty good account of the Eastham raid and its lead up.

The Raid on Eastham: October '00 American History Feature | HistoryNet

Thanks Linda.
Good chronology in that link, with all of the names of the participants along with their prior and subsequent connections and activities.
The author makes it very easy to follow along and understand those involved.

While this information makes it clear that Travis was not one of those sprung by Clyde Barrow, the time frame during which Travis was on the lam
(15 months prior to the Eastham breakout on Jan 16/34 -----> to sometime in 1935, when he turned himself in) makes me wonder where Travis himself was hiding out for nearly two and a half years, what he was doing, and how he may have re-established contact with B&C.....and under what circumstances ?
That being IF his interactions with B&C at the campsite occurred during this period of course.

Regards:Wayne

Bonnie/Clydes shot up car was on display at a casino in Primm Nevada. Looked like the feds were really pissed off at the nice couple. Enough holes to make the car a cool looking water fountain.

They should have put a few more holes in it.

"All told, the Bonnie and Clyde 'Barrow Gang' was believed responsible for the deaths of 13 people, including nine police officers."

Hey, there's another "Clue". :laughing7:
Didn't Travis' uncle Robert say something about Travis pulling off off old US 60 into a ......" Barrow pit " ?
Maybe that's where B&C hid the loot......get it ?:dontknow:

A Bonnie and Clyde Barrow Pit is a double line of Texas Ranger's you have to drive through while they're blasting away with tommy guns! But you're right there was plenty of spent ammo in those pits! I picked up hundreds with my gold bug2.

Instead of stealing copper wiring and bronze statues, why can't them that do it gather up and sell all that brass that's laying around everywhere ?
In a perfect world, I guess.

In a perfect world, I guess.

I guess crack heads already have ammo. So that's why they steal copper so they can get crack and buy ammo for guns to rob with. My business was broke into a while back by one of them and all they took was a long copper extension cord. Left a crack pipe on the floor.

Barrow pit has some meaning. There is a gravel pit right there near both locations. If the original maps were made on small stones I wonder what type of material the stones were?

The area I found the grave like holes not associated or near the QC site I never investigated very thoroughly.

It never crossed my mind he would be there manufacturing multiple Legends for sale.

It may be where he carved his first prototype of a fake stone map. I'm sure he had some rejects laying around if you found the actual site of his carving fake treasure maps you just find one.

If he did indeed find small stone maps like Oren Arnold did in the Catalina Mountains I wonder if they would be about the same size as his. It makes me wonder if Oren Arnold knew Travis or knew about the small stone maps?
Or did Travis get his idea to carve the small maps from Oren? At least we now know he wasn't telling the truth about most of his exploits so it seems logical he's just a plain old story fabricator.

At least he stayed with it to the end. Letting people search for the fake treasure and laughing his butt off! In that way he has a lot in common with old Jacob Waltz!

all over the south west LOL
Bill you reminded me of the spider rocks, blog about the rocks

I can't believe that I didn't bookmark it when I found it but if you look under Texas, Arnold, Treasure, you might find the newspaper story of a man named Arnold and his one legged Mexican looking treasure hunter friend. Thinking back, it could have been PegLeg.

I don't know if that's true or not. It sure shows a pattern of mysterious maps being found all over the place in Texas home of the stone map makers. Makes me wonder if the main finder of the maps was also a stone carver? It seems those older treasure hunters when faced with no discoveries always come up with a stone map and a few trinkets you could buy in mexico and make fantastic claims for their investors. Copper plates? Now were getting into Brigham Young and Mormon Territory!

In wondering why Travis might have faked his story and the Stone Maps, you might want to consider a fertile imagination and boredom. As I read some of the posts on this forum, I see those thing may be the impetus behind some of the writings. Bowman comes to mind, and he carried on that kind of game for a number of years.:dontknow:

Good luck,

cj , this is the strangest forum I've ever been on . On any other forum I'm on there are a few guy's that know what they are talking about and the rest kiss their rear ends to get info. On this forum they run the knowledgeable people off or get them banned and then fight amongst each other over which of them knows the most, and talk about every crazy topic except the LDM . closest place to the nut house I've ever seen

Actually, the nut house is a place where the inmates repeat the same failed activities over and over again hoping for different results. Or, any results. Sound familiar?
